Well, it's been quite the week. I'm still recovering from *that* Sweden vs England penalty shootout on Thursday night. I do wish though that commentators and pundits would stop talking about women's football in such a patronising way. Give praise where it's due and, crucially, criticise where appropriate. There seems a determination from some in the media to never say anything negative at all. I'm sure I heard Gabby Logan talking about how amazing the penalty shootout, in which only five of 14 spot kicks were scored, was! It is nonsense and does the growth of the game no good at all.

BBC Annual Report Comes as Scandals Start to Bite

There is a lot to unpack from today’s BBC Annual Report. Michael Savage at The Guardian notes that a further 300,000 households have stopped paying the licence fee. That is a huge financial hit to Aunty. Meanwhile, the organisation still has a deficit of £132 million. It is also set for tricky negotiations with the government about its charter.

Afghan Data Leak and the Power of Investigative Journalism

Over the last few days, the story of the huge Afghan data leak has finally emerged. It involved the details of thousands of those who helped Western forces during the war. Also now public is the enormous cost of the plan to fix the issue.

This happened thanks to the intrepid work of The Times' defence editor, Larisa Brown, and some in other media organisations...
