Summer is a weird time in media. It is (hopefully) quiet, but that doesn't stop the airwaves and newspaper pages having to be filled. This year, the British political press have not had much time to relax as protests and legal challenges against migrants being accommodated in hotels have sprung up in Epping, Essex and look likely to spread this bank holiday weekend.

My Predictions for Q4 2025

It’s the time of year when people are thinking ahead to Q4 2025 and how they can end their year on high. I’m certainly thinking about that for The Addition. With that in mind, I thought I’d share some predictions at the intersection of culture, media and sport for the coming three months.

The usual caveats, namely that my predictions are generally terrible, apply:

It’s been a big couple of days in US sports media. ESPN has (finally) launched its full-fat streaming product, and Yahoo! Sports Network is live. The first is the only way (for Americans) to get the full ESPN experience without cable. The latter comes with 60 hours of original programming. The services are huge steps forward for both brands and tell us a lot about where sports media is now. People either want high-quality rights exactly what they want, when they want. Or they don’t want to pay.
